CMA Winter Challenge

Our winter challenge is a ridden Trechery course (TREC x archery) and will be run as a postal match all winter

Designed to fit into a 20 x 40 arena, the obstacles can be placed anywhere within the arena or riding area and tackled in any order. You must however carry your bow and arrows throughout the challenge (a quiver is permitted).

You need to submit a video of yourself and your horse doing the following:

a) Pole square (3 x 10 points)

4 jump poles to be arranged in a square. There are 3 separate things to do with this, they do not have to be done consecutively:

1) Trot into from any direction and stop within the square

2) Walk into the square and turn your horse 360 degrees without touching the poles

3) Walk into the square then reverse your horse out of the square in any direction

Marks will be deducted for knocking the poles, or tight reins

b) Shooting ( 3 arrows must be shot separately – i.e. one at a time between doing other obstacles)

***Please ensure you have a safe overshoot area for your target ***

A FITA 80 target needs to be set up diagonally in one corner of the arena with two poles 7 metres from it as shown below. You can shoot from anywhere on your course but you must not go closer than the poles to the target. One of your shots must be offhand. Score as usual (1 to 5). Please video your arrow score at the end.

c) Throwing

  1. Pick up a small ball/bean bag etc from a stand (6 points from walk, 10 points from trot)
  2. Throw it into a bucket from anywhere (at walk 6 points if it goes in, at trot 10 points if it goes in)

d) Figure of 8

Set up 2 cones/barrels etc and ride a figure of 8 around them. 6 points for walk, 10 for trot

e) Bridge/Tarp (10 points)

Horse to walk over a bridge or a tarpaulin or other obstacle that would be unusual for them to walk over, mattress, foam mat etc. Marks will be deducted for hesitation, evasion etc.

Please send your videos to cotteswoldma@gmail.com before the end of February 2022. If you wish your score to count towards the Postal League then you will need to submit your entry before our AGM in December.
